Introducing the LWWJ Small Vessel Trail Series
Two years ago, a buddy started a Thursday night working man’s tournament called the Lake Woodlands Weekly Jackpot. This started on Lake Woodlands, in the north part of Houston, TX. It was a cash-at-the-ramp tournament, allowing folks to have a late-week break and go fishing!
Later in the year, the tournament gained some traction and we started to have pop-up Saturday events. We expanded the Thursday and Saturday events beyond Lake Woodlands, hitting other Southeast Texas lakes.
This year, we’ve expanded even more and created a trail, following multiple lakes in the Southeast Texas region. Our first event, and 2-day Championship events, are scheduled for Lake Woodlands.
The first event was last weekend, wrangling 7 anglers to battle it out in 35° air temp and 49° water temps. It was rough, but there are always fish to be caught.
We want to invite more anglers to join our trail. The events will be a $40 entry fee with an optional $10 Big Bass pot. To qualify for the Championship, there’s a one-time $20 Club fee and fish in 3 events, or win any event. We are using Fishing Chaos to manage the events. The small vessel trail allows human and electric-powered vessels 16′ and below. We wanted to allow more than just kayakers to join, letting Jon boats, canoes, skiffs, bass raiders and other craft compete.
